When printing my images, i always start out with test prints. It's just to make sure that the image comes through clearly and there are no major flubs. I wanted to test out a navy blue ink mixture and some white, so i grabbed these random pieces of fabric. They turned out rather well, so i've made each of them into handy zipper pouches which are now available in the shop!

As someone who used to screenprint old school style (screens on big wooden frames, ghetto-rigged lamps, carcinogenic photo-emulsions) and now uses a Gocco machine- for which supplies are no longer being manufactured- i was surprised to see this contraption being advertised in the Joann Fabric ad that came in the mail today.

This machine is so big and goofy looking, but i'm intrigued, that's for sure. See it in action here.

As If i Needed Another Thing to Get Into

About a week and a half ago i taught myself how to crochet, and to be honest, i think i'm obsessed! I don't have any big plans for this at the moment, as i just wanted to make some simple bows to add as embellishments to my larger bags and to pin onto my own clothing.

I've been playing around with different sizes and shapes and really just want to make them in every color of the rainbow!

And speaking of crocheted bows, checkout out these adorable, custom made bow scarves that showed up in my mailbox today!

The flea market is finally done and over with!

It was a successful one, and i'm now psyched to get back to work and replenish my stock. I'm psyched to have gotten rid of a lot of old bags, shoes, clothing and jewelry. I'm psyched for the ideas i have for my space at Mew, which is in need of a major overhaul.

Oh, yeah...I'm also psyched 'cuz i'm about to stuff my face with a really awesome cheeseburger.

A Late Entry into the New Year

It's 2009, can you believe it?! Okay, so it's been 2009 for almost an entire month now, but whatever. I sort of fell off the face of the blogosphere, and i don't really have an excuse for it. I'm a woman of few words, anyway. I have way too much stuff, so I've been spending a lot time purging my closets for stuff i no longer need. When i think i'm all done, i go back again and find more stuff, and i've been doing this since early December.

Until recently, i haven't stepped foot in a thrift store since August or September and vowed not to do so until i got rid of all of my unwanted stuff. If you check out my favorites on Etsy, you can see that most of it is all vintagey/thrifty stuff, so i was sort of torturing myself until i couldn't take it anymore. I'm trying to be more selective, though, and am trying my hardest to stay away from useless, albeit cutesy knick knacks that really serve no purpose.

I've also been working on stuff for myself, which is a rare occurrence. Mainly making and altering clothing and hitting up pattern sales to save and make in the future.

As mentioned in my last post, i completed some new screenprinted keyboards and boomboxes and they're now available in the shop. I also finished up a new batch of Baby Grand Piano Pouches, which can also be found on Etsy. There's one Baby Grand that i've yet to list, and it's made from a gray and white floral blazer that my mom used to wear in the 80's. To keep, or not to keep?

These and other items will be available next Sunday (Super Bowl Sunday!) at the R5 Punk Rock Flea Market @ The Electric Factory in Philadelphia. If you're in the area, you should stop by!

and i've been sewing sewing sewing like crazy. Hopefully people are still in need of gifts for giving, because i know i'm not anywhere near done my Christmas shopping.

The R5 Punk Rock Flea Market is this Saturday and i just got done sewing a huge batch of keyboards and boomboxes. "Huge" as in almost the same amount that i had to make for Fred Flare huge. Crazy!

I'll have some new bags, six new keyboard and boombox colorways, mini pouches, piano key/heart ornaments, and lots of other stuff.

***Jan. 26- The flea market has been postponed! It will now take place on February 1st at the Electric Factory, from 10am to 4pm. This is a much larger venue, so there will be lots more vendors...130 in all!

After all of the vacations and moving/reorganizing my workspace(it's done! yes!), i'm finally back in the swing of things.

Speaking of the new workspace, it turned out really well and i know where EVERY little thing is, which is unheard of for someone who usually just throws things in random bins and then can't find anything. Pictures coming soon.

I found some truly amazing metallic blue vinyl the other day, which inspired me to start making my vinyl keyboards again! Here's what i have available in the shop so far:

Tomorrow, R and i leave for Myrtle Beach and i'm super excited! I've been busy working on some new keyboardy things and a last minute custom order, so i haven't even packed yet! Plus, i've got some things to package and ship out, so i'll be running around like crazy until we leave for the airport.

At the moment, i'm supposed to be saving money for my upcoming vacation. And while i was at the flea market to sell my crafty wares, vintage bags, and to unload some of my own personal items, it was hard for me NOT to look around and see what sort of amazing junk was for sale.

I browsed several times but managed to display a lot more self control than i usually would have and i left with a few pieces of jewelry and what has to be my most favorite flea market find ever- a vintage Earl Bernard figurine/mini desk organizer! And for a mere $2? Score!

Bakin' Burgers

So, last month was Ryan's birthday. For occasions like this i usually try and find a new item to add to his burger collection, but this time i couldn't find anything that i liked.

Luckily, i like to make things, and sometimes bake things (though rarely), so i at first thought i'd go ahead and bake a burger cake. That idea was nixed rather quickly and i opted to try and make burger cookies instead. I found instructions for these, and i say "instructions" because there's absolutely no baking involved. They're little and cute, but not quite what i was looking for. I ended up just using them as inspiration for my own burger cookies...butterscotch and chocolate...which evolved from a recipe for checkerboard cookies (found in The Cookie Bible). I tweaked things here and there and it was basically a crazy experiment that left me with lots of gigantic but ungiftable cookies because they were cracking into little pieces. I managed to salvage three whole burgers, parts of which ended up hollow (something i've never experienced before), decorated them with icing and packaged them in a neat little box.

Even though things went a little crazy, they turned out pretty neat and he was totally surprised!

While sitting behind my mini fortress of a display at the Punk Rock Flea Market last Saturday (the photo above was the view to my right), i realized that out of the 5 times i've been a vendor, i've never actually attended as a shopper. Or browsed, for that matter. So, as i sat and peered out from behind my space, i noticed a woman walking around with ice cream cone salt and pepper shakers that i totally would've bought if i wasn't so tethered to my spot. There's nothing better than going through piles of someone's old junk, so i couldn't help but wonder what else was i missing out on. I did manage to score a sweet lamp from the table behind me, and for a mere four bucks.

Overall, the day went pretty well, but it was hot as balls for sure!

The ILIKEITTOOTOO Mini Shop at Mew Gallery!

It's part of the new Artist Co-op that's currently being set up at Mew, and i'm pretty excited about it. Ryan and I drove to the city on Wednesday which probably wasn't the best time to go, considering the crappy cold rainy weather and having to get to Philly by driving through Jersey. You know, because of that whole "I-95 Nightmare" thing that was happening. I'm crazy and obsessive, so it took me (what i would consider) an embarrassingly long time to put together, but it's the sort of thing i enjoy.

With this new arrangement, i have a lot more control over things, and my stuff is in its own clearly defined space which i think will be helpful in attempting to build a recognizable brand...at least within the store itself. I get to sell my vintage jewelry finds alongside my handmade stuff as well!

Make Your Own Movie- 'Be Kind, Rewind' Style

How funny/awesome is this?!

Deitch Projects in New York is hosting Michel Gondry's 'Be Kind, Rewind' exhibit, in which the gallery is recreated to look exactly like the video store in the film. Plus, if you go, you can make your own movie- though you have to make a reservation of sorts, first. Here's more info:

"Be Kind Rewind is a film about two childhood friends living in Pasaic, New Jersey, trying to make ends meet. After one of the characters accidentally gets his brain magnetized by trying to sabotage a local power plant, he visits the video store his friend is taking care of while the owner is away and unknowingly erases all of the video tapes in the store’s inventory. The characters decide to make their own homemade versions of popular films in a junkyard behind the store. These new “sweded” films—recreations using commonly available, everyday materials—prove more popular with the customers than the originals, making the two friends local celebrities.

For the exhibition, Michel Gondry will be recreating the video store in the gallery, complete with a back lot containing a variety of movie sets where visitors can make their own renditions of films. All videos created during the exhibition can be viewed in the gallery."

I love Michel Gondry's movies and music videos, so I would love to see this. And maybe make a silly movie if i wasn't such a shy, nervous nellie. I missed when Deitch had the Science of Sleep exhibition, so hopefully maybe i'll make it to this one. You should go, for sure.

So, it seems like my blog and i have taken somewhat of a "break" from each other, which really means that i just haven't had anything interesting to write about, and in a lot of instances, i did, and i just didn't take the time to blog it. Anyway, i think we're on good terms again, though i still don't have anything interesting to say.

For a while my crazy shopping and supply sourcing habits got out of hand. AKA- I spent more time searching and hoarding as opposed to actually using what i have. So, i was in search of neat things and found them, which only made me want to keep searching and searching. Luckily, things have calmed down and i'm ready to dive into my supplies and start making making making again! Crossyourfingersforme!

Aside from the fabric and shopping addiction, i'm becoming slowly addicted to Seeqpod, and MAJORLY addicted to watching Kids, Incorporated song covers on Youtube.

Do you remember that show? I watched me a ton of this show when i was a teeny little kid in the 80's, and i think i love it as much as i did back then. And not in the "so bad, it's good" kind of way, either. Sadly, i find them genuinely entertaining, if only because it reminds me of being a kid and having fun and not giving a sh!t. (I'm also a sucker for 80's whatev, so really, don't trust my judgement.) The show continued into the 90's, but turned into a total suckfest...like, in the "so bad it's just...bad" kind of way.

I had a very productive Saturday and laughed at Larry David while working on some new pouches. They're now available in The Shop, so check 'em out.

Also! Here's another something new that i worked on today, totally on a whim, though i have been kicking around the idea of making pouches in the shape of a grand piano. I love how it turned out, though the curved part at the top is a little more narrow than i wanted it to be. I'll probably rework the design, but i still love love love this thing!

I repurposed fabric from a big old 80's skirt, and i've got tons of bright colored plaid skirts to repurpose as well, so i can't wait to make more of these pianos in super fun plaids!

I don't spend a lot of money on Etsy, mostly because i make a lot of stuff myself, and because i find it super hard to justify buying anything that i can't give as a gift or use as a supply. I stumbled upon MandaLanda's shop a while back and have been lusting after this brooch ever since, checking like a madwoman to see if it had sold or not. So, once the new year hit i decided that if it was still there, then it would be mine. It arrived today, and i love it! It's quite large at 4.5" and it's just really well made and amazing (at least i think so), and i sort of want to frame it and hang it on the wall when i'm not wearing it.

Anyway, check out Amanda's shop! There are only a handful of things there right now, but hopefully she'll be listing new stuff soon!

Thrifted!

Today, one of my nearby thrift stores was having a $5-a-bag clothing sale, and i scored big time! Some clothes to wear, most to repurpose. I stuffed as much as i could into my brown grocery bag, then i found more stuff that i hadn't seen on the first walk through. Lots of fun fabrics and saturated colors, but here's my favorite clothing find of the day- a black 80's sweatshirt with big wrist watches in black, white, and silver glitter!

I also came away with some vintage craft books and kids books, and here's one that i've made into a new notebook which will soon be listed on Etsy:

But my most favorite find of the day is a game from 1987 called Monster Mash -aka- Best Game EVER. I used to play this game when i was little, and i don't think me or my brother owned it, but i know someone did and it was super fun. I mean, a game involving monsters and huge smacking wands? Seriously...Best Game EVER.

Dec. 22nd was the Punk Rock Flea Market, and as always, it ruled. I remembered a lot of my customers from the summer flea market and ran into a few Etsians while tending to my wares. I actually wanted to look around and purchase some stuff (shirts and prints by Outlaw Printing Co. and Pizzatron, who are clever as fvck and package their shirts in small "Pizzatron" pizza boxes with a fake cockroach on top (!!!), among other things), but was damn near trapped behind my table. I ran into Taryn from MyMy and she snapped the picture above, which i stole because i'm such a shyster, and because i couldn't get in front of my table to snap any pics myself.

Anyway, I hope everyones holidaze were super and that you're super psyched for the new year, cuz i know i am!

I've been completely out of commission the past few days due to some weird stomach thing. It's left me completely tired and weak, and all i can really do is try to get some rest, though i'm finding that laying around and resting is pretty boring and can actually be a bit uncomfortable when doing so for too long.

Last Saturday was the craft show at Ray's, and we did well compared to some of the other shows we actually pay to do, and we met some awesome new people. I bought this creepy little guy (to whom i was inexplicably drawn to) from a fellow vendor named Jamie. The only downside to this show was all of my stuff smelling of horrible cigarette smoke when i brought it back home. I've laid everything out go get some air, and luckily everything is back to normal.

On Tuesday morning, i woke up with the makings of a sore throat and have since been under the weather. Timing is funny like that, considering that I was supposed to be prepping for the PEST Trunk Show which is tonight. I mean, i pretty much sat in my work space all week with every intention of being productive but nothing was happening. Okay, i did print up a crazy amount of keyboards but never got around to actually making them. Oh wellz. So tonight, out of nowhere...and against Ryan's advice to get lots of rest and NOT stress out...i got the sudden urge to make, make, make. But only a handful of things. I'm now super psyched to make all new stuff for the other two shows i'm doing, but hopefully something else doesn't come along and eat up my time or zap my energy.

So, before Thanksgiving, i stopped by everyone's favorite Swedish-based clothing store and while browsing the clearance racks, i stumbled upon a crazy cute cassette tape dress that was way too small for me. I bought it anyway so i could rip it to shreds and use the fabric to make new things. Here's a little peak at the first thing i've made so far:

Some totally crazy things happened so far this week, like snow and lots of unexpected Etsy sales (i probably just jinxed myself), so i'm hoping the rest of the week is good if not better. I'm going to be printing and sewing up lots of new keyboards in the next few days because i'm damn near out, which is an amazing thing to realize.

This Friday is the Philly Etsy Street Team Trunk Show at Mew Gallery, so i'm already stressing, but i've got some neat new things in the works.

A Break From Non-Blogging

I've been feeling particularly crappy for not having the time to work on new things and update the blog, but luckily i'm no long suffering from crafters block or whatever you wanna call it. Last week was Thanksgiving and our ENTIRE family spent the whole weekend in Atlantic City, New Jersey and it was a blast. And this weekend we're holding an engagement party for my cousin here at home, so i've had to help my mom out with shopping for supplies and cleaning up my crafty clutter and tons of other stuff. Sooo, by next Monday i should be good to go as far as making new things goes.

I've hit up some of my favorite thrift stores and supply stores recently and came away with some awesome stuff which i will share soon! I promise!

As a crafter, i get bored really easy. Plus i just like challenging myself and trying new things, just to see if i can do them. At one flea market i was a vendor at, a girl was browsing my table and asked if i was selling the earrings i had on. They were a pair of moderately sized, vintage glitter-encrusted button studs and they're one of my favorites...which says a lot because i have an excessive amount of jewelry.

Anyway, this week i tried to make my own, and luckily, i was successful!

On Sunday, Ryan and i were vendors at the Mew Gallery Art Extravaganza in South Philly and it was a super fun time! I met a handful of awesome Etsy sellers and came away with a few things, but the most entertaining part of it was meeting Jay McCarroll from Season 1 of Project Runway! He was my favorite from that group, so it was super exciting and i had a few mini freakouts.

Anyway, after browsing and looking at everyones stuff, Jay deemed Ryan's Decorative Mix CD Robots "Best in Show" (!!!) and then called him "the weirdest human ever", which we both thought was pretty awesome.

And as mentioned, i came away with a few goodies. A custom black neckwarmer with super big button, a funny little scented crochet pumpkin from Yarnbeast.Etsy.com, a vintage pastel dot purse & vintage Batman shirt from Mxxnshine...

A Brand New Bag & The Bracelets!

Soon to be listed on Etsy...and by soon i mean probably tomorrow...is this bag! It's made out of one of the coolest vintage fabrics i've ever found and it has abstract sailboats in amazing neon colors! I have a good amount of fabric left, so i hope to make one for myself, though i can honestly say that i never really take the time to do that.

While making it, i was watching Full House- Season 1 and came across one of my favorite episodes EVER, in which DJ & Kimmy form their own band called The Bracelets!

Halloween is tomorrow (already!), and i can't remember the last time i was actually in costume. So, in the spirit of things, here are some costumes from my childhood:

Little Witchy Mitchie, i guess you could call this one. Here i am with my most favorite teacher ever, Minnie Mouse! I think i was 4 years old when this was taken.

Here i am with my BFFs Stephanie the Bunny & Marni the Cheerleader. I'm supposed to be a girl from the 50's and wore saddle shoes and everything.

And last but not least, here i am as a "Space Cadet". My mom made this costume...actually she made all of my costumes. When most people see this, they say i look like a Power Ranger, but this was way before they even existed. I guess my mom was ahead of her time!

In ILIKEITTOOTOO news, i'll be busy packaging orders and working on Bow Bags today. I hope to have some listed by the end of the night!

Yesterday (meaning Tuesday), i set out to make some new and simple mini tote bags and picked out 11 different fabrics- new, repurposed/recycled, and vintage- and started sewing like crazy. I don't really know how i arrived at 11, but with as much fabric as i have, i guess i had to stop somewhere.

Sooo, it's totally past 3am now and I'm finally done! I sort of made them with the Philly Etsy Street Team Autumn Handmade Market in mind, but i still haven't decided if i'm going to participate or not. I guess i also wanted to test out my productivity, though they were fairly simple and i don't usually like to make so many of the same style all at once...usually because i get bored, and/or distracted way too easily and end up with piles of pre-cut fabric that i have no interest in assembling.

Since i'm out of the woven labels that i usually order, and i just paid my business taxes -aka- SUCKAGE!, i made some new labels using my embroidery machine with different colors of thread and felt. I like the way they turned out, but it moves a little slow and is a bit time consuming to sit there and make sure the thread doesn't eff up here or there.

Anyway, it is now way past 3AM now and i should probably call it a night, but i just wanted everyone to know that i LOVE this vintage sweater from TheVintageZoo on Etsy:

Post Office Woes & More New Fabric

So, my lovely friend Sam purchased my Little Blue Birds Pendant Necklace as well as my Sad Girl Swan Song Pendant Necklace and after over half a month, she still hasn't received them! I've sent things to customers in her area before, so i know it only takes like, 2 days or so. This is completely upsetting and is the first time this has happened to me, but i read about Post Office horror stories all the time, so i guess i shouldn't be surprised at all. Still though, these are things i can't remake and it's going to bug me just wondering where they are. Maybe they'll be sent back to me? Maybe i'm hoping for too much? Grrr!

Here's a new Purple Bow Bag that i made last night! The fabric is this crazy neon purple and neon red printed corduroy that's totally obnoxious, but in a good way. Unless of course you're one of those folks who is completely horrifed by dayglo colors...or color in general. (It's okay, i wear a lot of black). The picture below is of Emily, who i met back in April when i had a trunk show at Best Friends Boutique in Phoenixville, PA. As you can see, she purchased the green and purple leopard print Bow Bag.

Also, here are some new Keyboard Pouches i made using really thick vintage sheets with a large floral print, and a custom Boombox Pouch i made for Ryan. He picked out this boombox, a yellow zipper and matching lining, and the back is made out of bright green wool with a navy blue grid pattern.

There's not much else to report here for today. Tomorrow, Ryan and I will be heading over to our local Etsy Street Team meeting for the first time ever and going to see 30 Days of Night, which i am DYING to see. Woohoo!

Check out these colorful little hats! I got them at this really grody "general store" which i've always driven by but have never been into. For some reason i was compelled to check it out, and overall, it was pretty gross, but i found some really awesome stuff. Lots of awesome plastic frames and containers in crazy colors, totally 80's-ish stickers, neon bow and heart clips, colored webbing i can use to make bag and wristlet handles, and these adorable little hats! I love love love these to death, but i might be the only one who does. There were also two pairs of sunglasses i was going to get, but sort of forgot. It's obvious that they're leftover stock from the 80's, as was a lot of random stuff, so hopefully they're still there when i go back.

I got a really weird, albeit generous discount from my cashier, who was this older, almost toothless woman who i suppose was too lazy to ring me up, and she only made me pay for half of the stuff. At first she started ringing things up half off, and then it turned into her just throwing everything into the bag and letting me have some stuff for free. Umm, what?! Yeah, i don't know. I was just really confused, said thank you, and then left.

I also stopped at one of my semi-usual thrift stores and found these, plus two jackets:

Flea Market Madness & Fabric Overload!

Like last Saturday, yesterday was a super crazy day. Ryan and I hit up 2 flea markets, one "mini" flea market, a nearby thrift store, Mew Gallery, South Street, the diner, and then the Nada Surf show. This included two trips to the city and back.

We went to the first flea market, which is held twice a year, to look around and hopefully find some good stuff. I'm not sure how much time we spent there, but we made several trips to the car so we could free our hands and continue browsing and shopping. I participated in this flea market last year, but it wasn't the right venue for goods of the handmade variety and i only sold stuff to my friends who had a space next to me, and a local Etsy seller who knew i was going to be there. This is an awesome flea market though, definitely a mix of new, vintage, and antique finds.

I was so engrossed in looking at everything that i didn't take any pictures of all the cool stuff i saw, but as always, i did take pictures of the stuff i came away with.

Here's a toy jewelry maker from 1974. I bought it so i could display it on my new shelves above the soon-to-be jewelry/computer area in my workspace. You take these little plastic square pegs and crank the machine so that they attach to these plastic clips, then you link the clips together to make really horrible jewelry. I probably would've have died for this toy when i was a kid, even though it works like complete crap.

Next is a deck of adorable vintage unicorn playing cards, which i plan to use as new ILIKEITTOOTOO jewelry cards.

Then some jewelry and red & yellow plastic ashtrays from Japan.

Two scarves and a pair of ridiculously awesome splatter paint sunglasses from the 80's.

And a very odd wooden plaque with little painted mushrooms, which i found in a 25 cent bin!

Not pictured is a set of 4 books about marketing ones arts and crafts and all the steps necessary to operate a small handmade business. This set was a steal at $10, only because i've been meaning to look for these titles online and always tend to forget.

Ryan came away with a box full of old wooden frames, lots of records and cassette tapes, old Halloween notepads with funny monsters, and THE COOLEST metal tray with an illustration of a kid dressed as a chef with sloppy junk food. This will be added to his ever-burgeoning burger collection, of which i helped start.

Next on the schedule was Mew Gallery, so Ryan could drop off some stuff for consignment. We had a good amount of time before we had to be there, so we stopped by a nearby thrift store. Then we just drove around and eventually found our way to two more flea markets! The first one was a mini flea market of sorts, where Ryan spent a whopping $3 on a vintage dart board that probably would fetch way more than that at an antique store. At the second one, he scored more frames and records, and i purchased some more jewelry and a Knocked Up/Forty Year Old Virgin cardboard display. Because, yes, i'm a huge Apatow nerd.

Recently, i've been going crazy looking for fabric on Ebay, so much that it's an obsession! Actually, i do this every once in a while, but i've never purchased this much fabric from Ebay before. I've purchased a handful so far...okay, more than a handful, and these two (from the same seller) are the first to arrive.

New Stuffs

Due to last weekends crazy crafty weekend, my inventory has been severely depleted! This is definitely a good thing, though, because now i'm motivated to make lots and lots of cute new things. I need to hit up the sewing machine soon and make more bags, because that's what i'm really lacking. I spent a few hours yesterday scouring the good old Eeb* for some really bright, obnoxious fabric and i can't wait 'til it all arrives in my mailbox! I also went out and got some new fabric the other day, and the woman who cut everything seemed sort of shocked (in a good way) and gave me a running commentary on my fabric choices. The word "funky" was used, and it's usually not a word i'd use to describe my own work. I guess it's appropriate, though, since i tend to make everything bright and bold and colorful, and i like crazy patterns. Anyway, here's my haul- check out the obnoxious neon purple/neon red printed corduroy, black and gold houndstooth, and neon green vinyl!

I also hit up the remnant bins, only to find that they had already been picked through. I did find a handful of usable bundles, but not nearly as much as when i went on a remnant raid a few months ago and left the store with over 50 remnants. I usually buy them when they're super on sale, and it's never really advertised, so i guess it's all about timing.

I'm just starting to get back into the swing of things, and i've just updated the shop with a few handmade pendant necklaces. I've been wanting to look for some new vintage beads and charms to add to these and luckily at the Lancaster PRFM, i caught up with Tara of Eames & Lola and Buttoncollective (who i met at the last PRFM). I looked through the various packs of vintage beads and findings she had to offer...all of which were sorted by color -aka- eye candy...and i had such a hard time deciding which pack to buy, but went with my trusty old pal, red.

This weekend is going to be awesome and includes things like Darjeeling Limited, local flea marketing, and Nada Surf. Nice!

This past weekend Ryan and i were so crazy busy, that i didn't even have a second to update this here thing. Saturday was the Lancaster Punk Rock Flea Market and Sunday was the Mew Gallery Art Extravaganza and both were super fun, aside from me not getting enough sleep and it being so uncomfortably hot on Sunday.

This is just a mini-post of sorts, but i just wanted to mention that I'm now officially consigning my work! My work is actually in a store! During the Art Extravaganza, the girls from Mew each picked out a handful of stuff they wanted for their store, for a whopping total of 36 items! This is super exciting and hopefully my stuff will do okay, but for now i'm going to get some rest!

Lipstick Lies- Work In Progress

Early last month i posted about the Mailing List Book that i made using some paper i had lying around and the binding machine that my aunt gave me. Since then i've been wanting to make some journals using the same method, but this time i bought chipboard to use as the covers. I was having trouble coming with ideas of images to use, so on the fly i thought it would be fun to screenprint some lips onto the covers.

I'm sort of being stingy with my Gocco supplies right now, so i resorted to using a makeshift screen constructed of fine netting and a plastic embroidery hoop. I then used screen filler to block out any areas i didn't want printed, waited for it to dry, then added another layer of filler to make sure any pinholes were now blocked. I used screenprinting ink on some, acrylic paint on the others. After printing each color, i blotted the excess ink several times and then drew freehand over each area of ink to get that sort of off, misaligned look.

To fill up each book, i used tons of paper samples that i used to order for free back when i was a graphic design student and some colored copier and scrapbook paper- all of which were cut to size.

Craftzomnia!

For a long time, i was debating whether or not to sell my pendants as is, or as a complete necklace. There was a thread on Etsy with the hypothetical situation of one seller purchasing another sellers handmade pendant, and then including it in their own finished product, or just slapping it on a chain and then selling it. At least that's what the gist of the discussion seemed to be. So, i decided to just bite the bullet and spent some of yesterday looking for chain for 35 pendants.

I worked from 8pm yesterday until 4:30am today, and oddly enough, i'm not yet sleepy! Although, if i keep this up throughout the week, i'll be sick by Friday...So, i will catch up on sleep in just a few minutes, but here's a little peak of a few more pendant necklaces:

I also purchased a hinged shadowbox that i might use as a small display case, and it'll most likely be painted red, though i still have to figure out what my overall table layout will be and if i'm even going to end up using this or not.

I'll update soon with the finished presentation/packaging of these. Have any suggestions? I was thinking of displaying some in the shadow box by laying them out and then keeping the rest in their individual jewelry boxes, on little info/tent cards.

Out of the blue, i looked to see what was up with The Treasury and somehow nabbed an empty spot. Totally not front page worthy, but i like seeing some of the stuff i like all bunched together. Check it out here.

Thursday just wasn't my day for sewing. I was *trying* to put together some new keyboard pouches, but my sewing machine and zippers decided that they hated me. I literally screamed out of frustration and had to walk away or else i would've punched it in its proverbial face. I love sewing, but sometimes on an off day, things don't go how they're supposed to.

The Lancaster PRFM and the Mew Gallery Art Extravaganza are creeping up in just over a weeks time, and i'm already getting anxious about not having enough stuff. I always get like this, even though i tend to bring more than enough.

[umm, weird sidenote: my left contact lense totally just fell out! I'm sitting here typing with my eye shut, though i'm thinking i should probably stop]

Here are 7 random/weird/whatever facts about myself:

1. I make lots of keyboard and piano-inspired things, but i don't actually play. I did take a keyboard class when i was a kid, but i think i got nervous and stopped. I don't know what it is, but i love them and i love making keyboardey things! Recently, i've been listening to The New Rags and i've decided that i should totally buy a Rhodes piano, just because.

2. I did however play electric guitar for a few years, starting at the age of 13.

3. I was Yearbook and newspaper editor during my last year of middle school, though the title didn't really mean anything.

4. I am quite short. I'm already 25 and have yet to adopt the use of heels to heighten myself. I prefer to stay steady and low to the ground.

5. When i was a kid, i entered a nationwide drawing contest that was conducted by The Disney Channel. I mailed them 3 pencil drawings of Aladdin characters on notebook paper, and was one of the i-don't-know-how-many Second Place winners. My prize was a book about Disney and the animation process.

6. I don't visit sites like TMZ or The Superficial very often, but when i do, i get totally sucked in and find myself completely glued to my computer.

7. Uncooked apples make my throat & tongue itchy!

I Hate Titles.

Wow, so i haven't blogged since Friday, and i don't even know where to begin! Not that anything exciting has really happened the past few days.

On Saturday, Ryan and I *attempted* to go to the Giant Flea Market & Craft Fair in Merchantville, NJ, but it started raining on the way down and when we got there, and we didn't even get out of the car to scope things out. I'm all for looking through peoples' junk, but not peoples' wet and possibly muddy junk. Someone even had a computer sitting out in the rain, uncovered!

Later on in the day, i went to several thrift stores and came away with some 80's deadstock jewelry (for myself), a new purse (which everyone seems to think is horrible), a book to rip up and make into new things, a Sha Na Na record (purchased strictly for the album cover), and this little lady:

I wanted to buy this as well, so i could clean her up and maybe even give her a makeover, but i somehow managed to hold back:

On Sunday, my mom and i got up early to go and buy some storage cabinets for our garage, because i still have a ton of books and art supplies taking up space. I also got a utility cart where i now keep some miscellaneous sewing items, the patterns i've drafted, and sewing projects that are just waiting to be put together. It's one of those red steel utility carts that are used in garages and it's as big as my desk, but i love it. Later on, my cousin had me help her pick out scrapbooking stuff at the craft store. Scrapbooking isn't really my thing, but it's always fun going shopping with someone elses money.

I have a lot more sewing to do before the flea market, namely my larger bags. I worked on these, which was an item i sold a few of on Etsy, and even had custom requests for. I was so in the zone that i actually forgot to sew in the velcro closures! Sooo, i have to go back, rip them open, put in the velcro and sew them back up. Yay! :/

Knocked Up came out on DVD today! I got the 2-Disc Collector's Edition, which came with a deck of playing cards! I don't even play card games, but really, i'm a sucker for anyone in the Apatow crew -especially Seth Rogen- so now i have my very own deck of Knocked Up/Seth Rogen playing cards. I've already watched some of the bonus material, and am trying so hard not to watch it all in one sitting.

My brother needed to go to the bookstore, and unfortunately for me, all of the new issues of the magazines i read came out. I blow lots of $$$ on these and a few others every month, but i'm thinking that maybe i should subscribe because it's way cheaper.

Back In The Saddle

After three weeks of not touching my sewing machine, i finally hopped back on yesterday! The last time i used it, i made these, but got frustrated and didn't feel like sewing anything anymore. I pile my scrap fabric collection onto a table and sort through everything for pieces that are large enough to be made into these mini pouches. They're really fun and easy to make, and hopefully i'll have another batch ready soon.

Also, here are more pendants that i just made. This grouping is my favorite, and i'm not sure whether to sell them as a set or seperately. Any suggestions?

1. I like horror movies, but i don't like watching anything having to do with aliens.

2. I'm short and chubby, but i insist on wearing skinny jeans. :P

3. If i wake up early enough, i ALWAYS watch the Today Show. I don't know about the new hour, though. I think it's sorta lame.

4. I once had an art history teacher tell me that she thought i was a foreigner because i was always really quiet in class and she thought that maybe i didn't speak english very well. Also, she thought i was foreign because i always wore bright, "exotic" colors. As this teacher got to know me over the years, she also told me that, due to my horrible school habbits- dropping classes like mad, handing things in whenever i wanted, etc.- that i'm really self-indulgent. She also said that i look like those big-eyed girl paintings from the 60's and 70's.

5. When i'm working super late at night, i tend to leave the TV on Nick At Nite.

6. I am a messy person, and there's no denying it. Even my desktop is messy!

For a while now, i've been obsessed with the idea of making pendants using images from a lot of the old books that i've thrifted over the years. So, for the past few months i've been tinkering with different methods. At first i tried using Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE) and a heat tool, but i didn't like the almost candle wax finish it produced. Then i tried Inkssentials Glossy Accents, which i thought would be okay because i've seen free jewelry projects using the stuff. When i wore one of the pendants for just a few days, it turned cloudy and it obviously wasn't a durable finish. I have a whole bunch of pendants made using Glossy Accents and now i don't know what to do with them! Maybe add them to my packaging when i send out orders?

So, a few weeks ago i finally caved in and have been experimenting with resin. I've been working outside, wiith adequate ventilation, but now i have this nagging cough and am thinking i should probably buy a respirator! Anyway, here are just two of the almost 30 pendants i worked on the past few days. I think they're adorable!

Sometime last week, Jenn from Sweetside on Etsy posted a thread in the Promotions section of the forums, offering free fabric to anyone who wanted some. All you had to do was respond with what fabric you were interested in and then convo her with your address. How crazy generous is that??? I picked this fabric, because obviously, i have questionable taste.

Painterly Nights & Sunday in the City

Saturday night, Ryan (The Bf) came over and we both worked on some new stuff. He finished up a new painting, and I started working on the mini keyboard coat racks that i mentioned back in this post...well, one of them at least. I just have to clean up the lines a bit more then varnish it and reattach the hooks. I'm still trying to decide what other colors i should make them in.

On Sunday, we drove into the city and went to one of my favorite flea markets. I'm almost completely out of zippers, and this is where i go to stock up. While looking through a section of board games, i found this super adorable German game called Bunte Ballone. I picked it up a few times and convinced myself i didn't need it, and then i finally caved in. I may use the game boards as journal covers, though they might be too cute to part with.

After the flea market, we went and had an awesome, albeit unhealthy breakfast on South Street which put us both into a major food coma when we got back home. New Gocco-printed goods are in the works, but i was out of black ink (both textile and paper), so i checked Pearl Art Store and bought every last tube of black ink they had left.

I'm thinking of participating in Mew Gallery's Art Extravaganza, which is being held on October 6 & 7, though i'd only be able to participate on the second day. The Lancaster PRFM is on the 6th and i'll have to work double time, but i think i can swing it...just as long as i don't run myself down and avoid sleeping, which is what usually happens.

Hopefully everything works out!

Another shop?

Lately, i've been toying with the idea of setting up a shop on E-Crater or Big Cartel just for my deadstock jewelry finds. I have tons of earrings, brooches, and other stuff that's straight from the 80's (and some from the 70's) and i sell them at flea markets, but other than that, they just sit patiently in my storage closet waiting to see the light of day. I used to list some deadstock on Etsy, but i'm thinking i should keep the two separate.

I am so super tired right now, but i'm forcing myself to squeeze out a blog entry. The past few days i've stayed up much later and woke up a lot earlier, so my body is sort of angry at me and i just feel really sluggish and my allergies are acting up. I didn't have much time to work on things today, as there was some family stuff i had to help out with. When i got home, i continued experimenting with some new stuff i'm working on, which includes these two little guys.

Also, I was going to work on these two pouches, and had cut everything out and did my ironing, but i had to throw in the towel because i'm just not up for it right now. The new "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" is on tonight and i'm tempted to take a nap beforehand, but i'm afraid i won't wake up in time!

Yesterday, Jen Vecc tagged me, so here are 6 unusual(?) things that you should know about me:

1. I'm 25, but am easily mistaken for a 16 year old. If i go to the movies and have to buy my tickets at the window, i get carded.

2. When i was about 12 or 13, i was super into Silverchair. For my first "concert" ever, i saw them and The Rentals (another favorite) open up for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I thought it was one of the craziest things ever and had so much fun that i wrote a letter to Kennedy on MTV, back when she was hosting Alternative Nation. She read it on air, and me being the huge geek that i am, have it on tape.

3. I tried going to college for about 7 years and studied graphic design, drawing and illustration, but never earned an actual degree. First i went to junior college, took some time off here and there, then went to art school for a year. I eventually called it quits due to my social anxiety and the fact that i find classroom situtations and group work to be completely unbearable.

4. When someone with opposing tastes deems something tacky or horrible, that just makes me like it more and more. I do have my limits, though.

5. I love bright, bold, crazy colors, but i wear a lot of black.

6. I met The Boyfriend on Myspace.

Back in July, i painted myself a piano key/keyboard peg rack to be used in my workspace. On a recent shopping trip, The Boyfriend found a whole bunch of small, wooden, wall-mounted coat racks...somewhat similar to these...and suggested that i paint some to sell. I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in them, but i'd have fun painting them and i think they'd turn out pretty cute. So, i bought a few and will be working on them before the flea market comes around.

I'm going to be working on so many different projects the next few weeks, it's crazy!

It is hot like DEATH outside, which made running todays errands totally unpleasant. To make matters worse, my little car doesn't have air conditioning! Well, technically, it does, but it just doesnt like to work. I put gas in the car, ran to the post office to drop off some packages, then went to a nearby thrift store in hopes for some good finds.

There really wasn't anything too exciting. There was a cool looking wooden tray that i would've bought to refurbish, but as soon as i picked it up, it had a really weird, nasty smell coming from it. Unfortunately, the smell stayed on my hand as i continued looking around. Gross! So, todays thrift store haul included a black 80's clutch, a science book, and some sheet music books which i plan on turning into buttons. I don't own my own button maker yet...yet being the key word here...so i'm going to cut them out by hand and send them over to ChristineRenee at Etsy. I'll probably frame the "Fingerpower" cover.

SIDENOTE: Here are some other soon-to-be-buttons that i cut out late last night.

After thrifting, i went to one of my favorite dollar stores just to look around. I'm always on the lookout for bright plastic containers and bins, so much so that i think i actually have too many, so i held off on that. Nearly everything i purchased was pink- a neon pink brush and mini dust pan set for cleaning up my work surface, a bubblegum pink picture frame that i was going to use to frame my Menta print...it's actually a bit too small, but that's okay...and some silver stretch foil wrapping paper with pink stripes that is super tacky -aka- super awesome. The only thing that wasn't pink was this treble clef napkin holder, which also makes the most perfect ILIKEITTOOTOO postcard holder.

I have been actively promoting and blogging like crazy these days, and i almost feel incomplete when i don't update. Unfortunately, I've been neglecting my poor sewing machine, but that'll change since i have the Lancaster Punk Rock Flea Market coming up on October 6. It's nearly a two hour drive, but the first one went so well and everyone was super friendly, so of course i signed up to do it again. If all goes well, i will have new gocco-printed pouches and notecards, recycled journals, plus the usual.

First Attempt at First Friday

Last night, The Boyfriend and i went to First Friday in the city for the first time ever. We walked around and saw some art, but it was so hot out that we weren't there very long. My favorite work was by Ben Tour at the Lineage Gallery, and you can see some of it if by visiting here. There was an artist set up on the sidewalk who was selling these painted metal sculptures, and i loved them all! I had a hard time choosing and settled on this one, which is funny because it just happens to have my name on it.

*Edit- The girl below was made by a husband and wife team, Morton Art Emporium. I just found their Myspace page.

A few months ago, my aunt stopped by to drop off a binding machine that her company was getting rid of. So, the other night i ran to Staples and bought a pack of plastic binding combs, so i could fiddle around with this new gadget. I set out to make myself a small mailing list book that i could just put onto my table at shows and flea markets, because i usually just bring a few pieces of paper and then end up having no room to set them out.

For the cover, I used some neon ILIKEITTOOTOO printed paper over some spare watercolor paper i had lying around. To fill up the book, i used regular notebook paper and paper from a partially used journal that had blue, green, and yellow gridded pages. I then hand stamped each page with a magnetic letter stamp set.

I can't wait until the next flea market so i can use it!

The ILIKEITTOOTOO Garage Scavenging Mission- Day 2

Yesterday, i continued working in the garage and found a lot more paper, screenprinting supplies, and lots and lots of old books. My mom suggested that i go through each and every book and just tear out what i think i might use, but that didn't really work and i got rid of almost nothing.

Here are some of my favorite pictures and illustrations:

1. The picture on the left is of an illustration on the cover of an old story book, which i will soon frame and hang up in my workspace. The other illustration is of a little boy in a bear mask!

2. These two pictures are from a science book. I really liked these because the background images were made using large cut out pieces of paper and it'd be fun to do something like that for future photo-taking sessions.

3. I just like these two because they're really busy.

4. Pops of the color red? A cute little girl dancing? Super!

The ILIKEITTOOTOO Garage Scavenging Mission- DAY ONE

So, i finally started to go through all of my stuff in the garage. And like i've said before, i'm a hoarder and i hate throwing things away if there's even the slightest chance that i could find a use for it in the future. Here are some things i dug up while sorting through a few boxes:

1. I lovelovelove magazines and hate to throw them away. A while back i decided that they were taking up too much space, so i went through a few boxes and cut out every illustration or picture that i liked or thought was interesting- whether it was because of style, certain color combinations, clothing, and so forth. The really tiny clippings ended up in an expanding document holder, while full-sized pages were put into a large sketchbook. Here are a few selections:

After going through magazine after magazine, you get to pick up on an artists style, and i found myself drawn to work by a lot of the same people. One of my all time favorites is the one on the top right, by Saiman Chow. The image on the bottom right is stuff i cut out from girly catalogs and magazines because i was bored one day, and i ended up painting white over anything skin-colored so they wouldn't look so "hey, i've just been cut out of a magazine". Hey, i said i was bored...

2. Here are two silkscreened fabrics from one of my 2D Design classes back in 2001. The first is a mirror image of my face which i then cut out of freezer paper and then screened onto a large white bedsheet.

The other fabric was made using a design carved out of a stamp. I carved the stamp, printed tons of little images, cut and pasted them into a pattern onto a larger sheet of paper, xeroxed it, and that was used as my artwork for exposure.

3. Two really large and rather gloomy paintings of a boy and a girl. Everyone who sees these harbors such a distaste for them, but i've somehow convinced myself that they're not that bad. I'm thinking of ripping them out of the frames they came in and putting them into simpler, brighter ones, while painting and using the old ones to make bulletin/chalk/magnet boards.

4. Stationary featuring mean and disgruntled little girls. I love these! They look so mad that it makes me laugh. These were just a few of the stationary sets that i picked up while on a familly trip to the Philippines a few years ago.

5. As soon as i started thrift shopping, which was 13 years ago (!!!), i would raid thrift stores for old books and magazines. The top image is of some knitting and crochet booklets that i purchased just for the color combinations that were used, the artwork, and the kitschy model poses. I don't knit or crochet, so these are merely for inspiration. Golden Hands was a craft magazine from the 60's and 70's that had tons of different projects for every type of needlework. Again, i kept these around for the color combinations and because they also covered a lot of sewing basics.

Some other stuff i went through today included lots of unused and partially used notebooks, sketchbooks, journals, paper samples from a paper show, tons of old notes from my friends back in high school, letters from pen pals, and these:

Little, heartfelt, and handwritten cards from two of my best friends (Stephanie & Marni) right before i moved here to Pennsylvania. I was 9 at the time and in the middle of 4th grade. On an awesome note, Stephanie and i found eachother on Myspace!

So, my plans sort of got messed up yesterday and i didn't get to start work on the garage. I was online A LOT and kept checking the forums on Etsy, and actually started promoting my blog and such. I did step out to drop some packages off at the post office and took my mom to one of her favorite stores, which i usually cannot stand, and got these funny little folks:

They're Halloween ornaments that i thought were just too cute and funny and they were super cheap, so now they're on my red shelf full of other cute, colorful, and obnoxious things.

On a productive note, I set out to Gocco-print some skull notecards (which i did a while back but the screen got effed up), but printed some for stickers instead. I used the same neon paper, AGAIN, and printed skulls with black ink, ran the skulls through the Xyron and then cut them out by hand.

There are 5 each of 6 colors, and right now i'm trying to figure out how to package and price them. Any suggestions?

Purging & Paper Bags

A little over a year ago, i moved out of my apartment and back into my parents' house. To this day i've still got boxes of stuff piled up in the garage, so this week will be dedicated to making the garage look more like...well, garage-like, and not a rented storage space. I've got a whole bunch of old text books and childrens books that i bought years ago with the intention of cutting up and using in one crafty way or another, so it'll be cool to sort through everything and see what i have. I've been working on a new project, off and on, but have yet to perfect it. Hopefully, i can finish up the garage super quick so i can continue working on it some more.

With every Etsy order, i send some freebies. So today, i made some packaging/little paper bags out of neon paper. I use the same ILIKEITTOOTOO pattern on neon cardstock to make my price tags for craft shows and flea markets. And since you can never ever have enough neon, i think i'll probably have some buttons made using the same printed paper.

Color Saturated Saturday

Today, Ryan and I headed to Jersey to hit up the Goodwill and to go to a flea market. I didn't really feel like sifting through all the crap at Goodwill and almost immediately got all stuffy and felt gross. I did manage to find this crazy-colored plastic statuette of two kids looking like they're about to kiss. I love it so much that i might make it the official ILIKEITTOOTOO mascot. Not that i really need a mascot or whatever.

Apparantly it was an off day at the flea market because there weren't too many vendors set up. Some family members of mine had suggested i purchase a space to see if i can squeak out a few sales, but i'm not sure people are willing to shell out the bucks for handmade stuff when there are crazy bargains everywhere.

Even though Saturday wasn't the most bumpin' day at the flea market, i got a few things. Here's my haul:

Reading PRFM today! Yesterday i worked on a bunch of tote bags, which meant i didn't get very much sleep. Between last night and the night before, i've only gotten a total of 3 hours! This is not unusual at all for me, though, because i tend to leave tons of things until last minute.

Okay. Time to print out confirmation and directions, and then maybe i'll get at least 2.5 hours of sleep.

After coming back from vacation, all i've been doing really is taking pictures of jewelry i made a while ago, and then listing them. Also, i just recently found out about the 1st Annual Reading, PA Punk Rock Flea Market which is on the 26th (ten days!), so i'm trying to figure out what i need to make before then.

Nothing really matters right now though because at 12:01, SUPERBAD is finally in theaters! And i'm so there. Unfortunately, i wasn't one of the gazillion people to see it for free, so i'll spend most of my day in anticipation while trying to get other things done. Hopefully all of the hype going around is true, but then again, i pretty much love anything Seth Rogen or Judd Apatow touch, the one exception being Talladega Nights which i really really hated.

Sooo, i didn't get to make a bag yesterday. My crazy sleep schedule caught up with me and made me all sorts of achey and i just felt out of it all day. I did manage to take pictures of the new bags for Etsy, so at least i was productive in a different way.

On the subject of photographing my items for Etsy, I never really know how to stage my bags so that they'll look they're best. If i had it my way, i'd have actual "models" to style so i could show what kind of girl i picture using each bag. Yesterday, i took some photos and played around with things, and i actually like the way everything turned out. I'm a little concerned that the plain background might be perceived as a little cold and impersonal, but if i can't stage things exactly how i want them, then i'd rather have the background be nondescript.

It looks so much better in person and it's a nice, sturdy, silk-like fabric so it has a sheen to it. When i went to pay, the young check out girl remarked about how great the fabric was, and i agreed and told her that i purchased everything they had left...several yards, though i'm not exactly sure how much. I get all panicky and hoardy like that sometimes when i find fabric that i really love. She was super disappointed because she was planning on making a bag out of it, and i really didn't know what to tell her so I just kept apologizing. She even complained to the customers behind me! If i was her i would've stashed it where no one could find it. Ahhh, whatevs.

Vacation is next week, so the bag making is definetly on hold for about a week. I checked the 10 Day forecast for Las Vegas and i'm already dreading this vacation! Upwards of 100 degrees? So gross. Luckily, we're also headed to San Francisco where the whether will supposedly in the 60s.

So, starting this week, my goal is to make at least ONE large bag a day (aside from other smaller projects). I don't know if that's really such a difficult goal for other bag makers, but i tend not to like working in a "production line" manner when it comes to my larger bags.

So far, I've accomplished what i've set out to do, though it's only Wednesday. Plus, my sleep schedule is already so out of whack that i might end up paying for it by Friday.

In other news, my tiny craft space is in desperate need of rearranging and i really want some wall-mounted shelves, plus a separate space for non-sewing activities. I've already found some prints on Etsy that i'd like to have once this room is completely done, but that involves money and that's something i don't have much of right now! Boo.

On the subject of Etsy...Ry is now a member and is working on some art for his new shop! I'm so excited! I saw some sketches that he worked on the other day and I can't wait to see how everything turns out. After working on that silly Zombie portrait of us, i sort of want to get back into drawing and making art, and maybe one day, sell some originals and prints in my shop. For the time being, i'll just concentrate on my sewing and jewelry.

Saturday.
Punk Rock Flea Market.

This was the first time i was super prepared for an event and i actually managed to get some sleep the night before. I thought things would go smoothly, but of course, i get thrown a curve ball.

In the end, the flea market was definitely worth it. I did almost as good as during the holiday edition of the PRFM, which was a shock considering that summer just isn't a major shopping season. I met and talked to a lot of new people who were really impressed with the quality of my bags and sewing skills in general. It's incredibly rewarding to know that there really are people who can appreciate handmade things and it almost sort of makes me feel like i know what i'm doing. I got asked my most favorite question of all time- "Do you have a store?????????" And I recognized a lot of my customers from last year who stopped by, so that was nice, too.

So, instead of trying to make more stuff for the flea market on Saturday, i made myself a stenciled Etsy tote bag. I've stenciled before so it wasn't anything new, but never on fabric. I used regular black spray paint, but have no idea how that'll hold up. I may invest in some of the fabric stuff, but i've tried that once before and it seemed to get clogged rather easily.

I'm tired.

It's sorta late.

I spent a good amount of time today cutting out everything to make these new skull pouches (printed with my Gocco) and i had to step away because i was getting super frustrated. Out of the six that i've tried to execute, only three came out decent. The ones that i fucked up were ripped apart, sewn together, and then stuffed. Typically, not my thing, but i like the way they look sewn together. Hopefully i'll wake up later today and my mind will be clear and i can resume working on the skulls, in pouch form, but if it's still not working for me...stuffed skull heads it is. It would actually be kind of cool to sew a whole lot of them together to form a completely obnoxious skull wall hanging.

The flea market's next week, and like always, i'm scrambling to get things done. I kinda wish it was over and done with already so i can just focus on listing new items on Etsy.

It's that time again for the bi-annual (twice a year) PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET. R5's most popular reoccurring event/show/whatever (by far). They had over 2400 visitors and 100 tables of old records, clothes, art, music, food, junk, bicycles, stereo equipment, instruments, automobiles, tools, posters, furniture, computers, skateboards and lots of other stuff this past December. It's all going down at The STARLIGHT BALLROOM located at 9th and Spring Garden Sts - a big spacious venue - giving them ability to host over 100 vendors in one single room - including yours truly.

All proceeds raised will go to the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies to ensure that all ages shows continue to remain a reality at The First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia - mainly an annual payment for their liability insurance policy. Do not let the "name of the event" lead you to believe that it's just punk records, clothes etc. - it's a full on flea market with everything from furniture, to laptops / computers , to stereo equipment, to handmade apparel, to vegan treats, information from various non profit groups, book stores, artists selling their work, bicycles & skateboards and whatever else they can fit onto the ballroom floor at The Starlight Ballroom.

In addition to the normal flea market stuff there will also be a full bar and food service kitchen to make the day go by a little faster.

So, last week was the Punk Rock Flea Market, Lancaster Edition. I probably should've blogged about it right after, but i was tizzired (for reals) and i'm just not a blogger by nature.

The Chameleon Club was an interesting venue, much different than the Starlight Ballroom where the Philly PRFM is usually held. The broseph and i were on the main floor, situated against a bar area. We paid for two spots without tables (read: cheaper) but when we got there, there was already a table set up in one of the spots. It worked out much better for me because we ended up bringing a six foot table for him to use, and a four foot table and a two foot wide rack for me. I spent some time at home trying to figure out how i'd cram all of my non-hanging stuff onto my small table, but i got lucky and just used the six footer, so my stuff was more spread out and visible.

The folks of Lancaster were super nice and i can't wait to do the next PRFM there, supposedly in the fall. As always, i was way too preoccupied to take any pictures.

This week i'm gearing up for the First Annual Lancaster Punk Rock Flea Market. It's not as long as the R5 PRFM, but i'm interested in seeing how big of a crowd will turn up. Hopefully, i'll actually get some sleep the night before the flea market- I tend to leave a lot of things to last minute and end up not getting ANY sleep. It's something i used to do all the time when i was in high school and college, but now that i'm a little bit older, i don't handle it as well as i used to.

When it comes to blogging, i've been a slacker. It's no longer second nature to me, as i've grown to want to keep personal things to myself, but i guess it can't hurt to write about the things i'm experiencing as i try to build a little business for myself.

Last month i was featured at Best Friends in Phoenixville. Very cute and stylish little boutique where i met some really nice people who were excited to see the product of my handiwork. I didn't do too bad in sales and almost everyone who walked in (i was situated right next to the entrance) bought something, so that was quite nice.

Today is supposed to be a super nice day, and i'm excited. And, oh yeah. Here's my new blog. I never really know what kind of introduction to come up with when i start these things, but i guess this is better than nothing.

What's up? Well, i'm officially a business! And i've been going crazy stockpiling materials to make more and more bags. I'm fortunate enough to work at a place where i can set my own hours, but i'd like to put 110% into crafting like i used to be able to.

Anyway. i'm being featured at Best Friends Boutique in Phoenixville, PA. !!! Hopefully, there's a good turn out and at least i'll be able to get my name out there.

In other news, i just got a Print Gocco (the PG-5 Model). I remember waking up on Saturday mornings when i was younger so i could watch Aleene's Creative Living on The Nashville Network, and they'd do all sorts of project with the Print Gocco. I wanted one soooo bad, but i eventually got over it. Then recently on the Etsy forums, people have been raving about their new Gocco machines, and again i was intrigued. So, yeah, i went and bought one from Feltcafe on Etsy, and damn, it really is super super easy to use and so much fun. Much quicker and safer than the screenprinting i used to do...washing out huge chemical-covered photo screens in the shower? Not such a good idea. Anyway, no more of that! I've got a Gocco!

I wanted to test out my new little gadget, so i whipped up a silly little customer "Thank You" note and printed it onto bright yellow cardstock and some other paper i had lying around. Here are the results:
